RIM - KOMINFO Meeting Results 17 January 2011

In a meeting between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Communications and Informatics) by Research In Motion Monday 17 January 2011 yesterday, the results agreed there's only 4 points as stated by Minister of Communication Tifatul Sembiring before the Komisi I DPR-RI  in a hearing: 

1. RIM has committed to meet the demands required by the government regarding  the availability of after-sales service center and currently more than 40 authorized Customer Care (BlackBerry Authorized Customer Care Center) has been set up. However, Kominfo still will monitor the truth and validity and the effectiveness of the 40 sales service centers.
 

2. RIM will discuss progress related to the facilitation of access-lawful interception for Indonesian law enforcer, which would then be discussed in private between the Ministry of Communications and Informatics and RIM.

3. RIM has committed to block access to negative Internet content , and for that the technical team of KOMINFO, representatives of six telecommunications operators that provide services, RIM BlackBerry and representatives will
directly and intensively discuss the preparation of filtering of the negative contents. In this context, Kominfo remains in the position that the technical implementation of negative Internet content filtering or blocking must be done no later than January 21, 2011.
 

4. RIM reported that they would establish a Regional Network Aggregator in a location that has not been mentioned. This Regional Network Aggregator will reduce costs significantly for carrier partners (the telecommunications operator) in Indonesia and improve performance for BlackBerry users.  Indonesian carrier partners companies need only to support sending data communication to the regional traffic node.
 

The meeting of the Indonesian party was attended by all members of the Telecommunications Regulatory Committee - BRTI, as well as representatives of six telecommunications operators (Telkomsel, Indosat, XL Axiata, Smart Telecom, HCPT and NTS). While the RIM chaired by Gregory Wade (Managing Director of Asia Pacific Rim Region) and was accompanied by Jason Saunderson (Director of Government Relations RIM), Richard Bale (Trade Attaché Embassy of Canada in Indonesia), Oliver Philgerstorfer (Senior Public Relations Manager South Rim East Asia) and several other officials.
